I have a DPX file that from identify's output appears to be in Log
colorspace. When working with the file such as using convert or display if
I don't set any colorspace conversion information and simply pipe the output
to my display with the "x:" output descriptor the image looks correct. If I
attempt to convert this log encoded DPX into a file though the resultant
file is overly dark. The only file format that the resultant converted file
looks correct in is JPEG. I'm trying to get an sRGB encoded file format of
some sort out and to understand why the Log colorspace is so hard to work
with in comparison to the RGB colorspace.
These commands display the dpx properly on my monitor:
convert foo.dpx x:
convert -colorspace log foo.dpx x:
convert -colorspace log foo.dpx foo.jpg && display foo.jpg
These command will produce a file that is too dark when displayed on my
monitor though:
convert -colorspace log foo.dpx -colorspace srgb foo.png && display foo.png
convert -colorspace log foo.dpx foo.png && display foo.png
convert -colorspace log foo.dpx foo.png && display foo.tif
convert -colorspace log foo.dpx foo.png && display foo.tga
convert -colorspace log foo.dpx foo.png && display foo.ppm
I'm trying to figure out what "display" is "doing" to get the file to
display properly. This is most likely a lack of knowledge on dealing with
log encoded files but it has me stumped. Any pointers in dealing with Log
DPX conversion would be helpful. Thanks!
Here is the identify -verbose for the Log encoded DPX:
