This is just a blend of white with the image.  One way is

composite -blend 80 \( -size 70x46 xc:white \) rose: rose_white80pct.png

another

convert rose: \( +clone -threshold -1 \) -compose blend -set 
option:compose:args 80 rose_white80pct.png



I will try to put a script together in the next few days to do all of this.
