>i have tried -fill white and -backgroud white too, but i don't know >why -opaque or -flatten is needed.
convert image.png -fill white -opaque none image.jpg this replaces transparency (-opaque none) with white. The -opaque none specifies that there are pixels with transparency (no opacity) to be replaced and the -fill white is the replacement color convert image.png -background white -flatten image.jpg this simply applies a white background over which the image is composited (-flatten) so that looking through the transparent areas one see white and then turns off the transparency. Thus where ever there was transparent white shows in its place.
