As nobody else goes for this, I'll try to answer: I think that ImageMagick isn't the right tool to apply colour corrections to RAW images. Thus using a specialised tool for these kind of corrections and ImageMagick for anything else is probably the right approach.
16-bit TIFF would probably be a suitable intermediate format and besides that everything is slowed down a bit by writing intermediate files, I can see no disadvantage in this approach.
