How can the Photoshop 'Trace Contours' filter (see http://www.graphics.com/modules.php?name=Sections&op=viewarticle&artid=309 or, somewhat simpler http://www.hirschi.ch/photoshop/workshops/filter/stilisierung/konturwerte/konturwerte.htm) be reproduced in ImageMagick? Any Ideas?
