The very first thing I can advise you is to try the latest wxGTK from cvs
(HEAD) and latest Mahogany. If you built Mahogany yourself it wouldn't be

Open the mailbox in another client and remove the offending message (which
one? I don't know but it must be one using some exotic encoding) from it.

I'm sending it to you because I know that you're not subscribed to the
