I think something must be wrong with the LOGIN auth as implemented by the
original POP server. Since I added support for auth to M I've discovered that
plenty of servers (POP and SMTP) don't implement AUTH mechanism properly. Now
there is a way to selectively disable auth methods which the server claims to
support but doesn't [properly], so please let me know if even with LOGIN auth
disabled M still can't connect to this particular server.
