Generally, the mail tree is like a file system tree.
Most operations ar very similar if not identical.
We are simply missing the links...

I tried this already, too. That's a first step. But since I'm using an imap
server at home (which has some advantages), this becomes a somewhat slow operation.

should be changed, I think. When searching in a text editor you also get a
new selection with the old one deselected (ok, normally you get just one of
them, so that's naturally).

But you want to be able to treat the items in the search results, e.g. you
may want to delete them or to move them. A copy would not allow that.
So I think we really need a kind of "links".
