Based around a framework called Material Design, it was a dramatic step forward in solving Google’s overriding user experience problem: After a torrid several years of product launches, ranging from Gmail to Google Docs to Google Drive to Google Now, there was almost no consistent way to interact with any of them. Sometimes an inbox would be in one place on desktop, another place on mobile, and yet another place on tablet. Sometimes buttons were blue or red or grey—who knows!
