I'd like to know if it is possible for viewing the list archives via the
Web be
restricted to list members only. Two reasons:
1. Reduces trawling for addresses by spammers - although Mailman can be
set to hide the email nature of these, that's done in a standard way
which is easily detectable by any decent trawler.
2. Forum members have always been able to fetch past digests for
perusal, and unsubscribed people haven't. I believe this has contributed
positively to the nature of the forum, and I think it helps to explain
the differences between the forum and the (in my view) appalling on-Web
fora the M&G runs; and I think those differences are worth preserving.
