I fixed mine (qmail on FreeBSD) by allowing localhost to relay. I added the following to the top of /etc/hosts.allow
tcp-env: 127. 10.11.12.13 : setenv RELAYCLIENT This command allows access for tcp-env (the tcp wrapper in inetd.conf for smtp) from 127.x.x.x subnet and from my local ip address 10.11.12.13. If I had multiple local servers, I might have made it 10.11.12 so any host on the 10.11.12.x subnet could relay locally. See the README.QMAIL in your install directory.
