You don't mention which MTA you're using. With Postfix, if aliases.db doesn't exist then you'll get the same symptoms (for example on the first list of a new install). "su - mailman" and run "/usr/sbin/postalias aliases" and your problem will likely disappear. If aliases.db does already exist, make sure the ownership and permissions are correct.
