There was a patch to do this for Mailman 2.0, back in the day:

But it has not been updated in a very long time, and I do not think
it will apply to any recent version.
Mailman 2.1 includes this functionality by default, but it is still
beta at this point. If one of the Python gurus around here wanted to
update that patch, that would be cool...
