In the light of the attached I'm starting to wonder if sourceforge is really up to the task. The support response would probably be more familiar to users of the commercial operating systems so many of us love to hate.

Of course, if any of you have experienced the problem in downloading the htdig integration patch #444884 would like to add your comments to the support request, I'm sure that the sourceforge support people will appreciate the input confirming their complacency over the issue.

I think that in future I will post any patches I develop on my own web site (http://www.openinfo.demon.co.uk/mailman/index.html
) in parallel to posting to sourceforge, given the potential unreliability of their delivery.

Summary: Tracker usage issue

Initial Comment:
The following problem occurs when using different
browsers (IE 5.5, Netscape 7.0, Mozilla) on different
platforms (Win2k Linux) and have been reported to me by
other users.

The following URL returns a blank page and should not:

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=444884&group_id=103&atid=300103

Using an https version of the URL returns the top half
of the page but not the list of existing files that
have been uploaded:

https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=444884&group_id=103&atid=300103

These failures are preventing users gaining access to
the latest version of the patch that has been posted.
The updated patch file was uploaded yesterday since
when this problem has existed. Can you help identify
what the problem is??

The same URLs as I cited in the orginal fault report. See
above and below.

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?
func=detail&aid=444884&group_id=103&atid=300103

and

https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?
func=detail&aid=444884&group_id=103&atid=3001

As I write both the http and the https version of the URL are
returning the results I have been complaining about to IE 5.5
and Netscape 7 running on Win 2k, Mozilla 0.9.4 and
Netscape 4.78 on Suse Linux 7.3.

These results are not totally consistent and on odd occasions
the full page may be returned but retrying shortly afterwards
give the blank or truncated page.

I hav no idea what the cause iibut it is being experienced by
multiple users using various browsers on different operating
systems. The only common element is the target URL.

Over the weekend I was seeing the problem going via two
different ISP ADSL accounts and over our corporate 2Mbit
link.

Over the weekend three other users of Mailman have emailed
me saying they are getting a blank page from these URLs
and asking me to email copies of the patch #444884 that
should be available through the subject URLs.

I am now posting patches on my own web site to
compensate for the problems other users are having it getting
them via sourceforge.

Please remember that just because you cannot observe the
problem from a machine on the same network as the server
which is getting the HTTP request for the page does not
mean it is not a real problem and not being a royal pain in the
backside to your user community.

What follows is the text of an email I received over the
weekend. When I checked what the guy had said I found the
problem was back and has stayed.

I tried accessing the Htdig page (444884) using the following
browsers
without success (all blank pages):

IE 5.1.6 (Macintosh)
Netscape 7 Macintosh
Netscape 7 Solaris 2.8

Maybe it only works for windows users? It sure isn't 'fixed'.

This problem was cleared by your previous actions but has
returned.

I have received several reports from other users saying they
are seeing this problem and, at the moment, I am reduced to
sending out the patch file they need as an email attachment.

Any help in fixing this problem permanently would be much
appreciated.
