It is probably about the same amount of work, but you could also create an umbrella list to which all the other lists are subscribed. The tedious part would be making sure that the sender is allowed to post to all 50 lists, but you have to do that one way or another.
Then the infrastructure would be in place should you need to make any other huge announcements.
Of course you would have to be extra careful about spam or other stray messages. Probably would want to require moderation of every message sent to the umbrella list, even by you.
