It would be nice if README.POSTFIX mentioned that it's important for the aliases.db file to be group writable and if check_perms would catch it if it wasn't. Attached is a patch that makes both of these changes. It showcases my absurd copy and paste abilities with python. Perhaps Barry or someone else that actually knows what they're doing can clean it up if need be and apply it.
