I was wondering if it's ever possible in mailman not to use any password when the user subscribes or unsubscribes?
It can be done. Actually a password is generated, but you can remove any hit of this if you want. You will have to edit the subscribe form (or make your own) and welcome letter, and kill the password notifications. Everything you need should be in the FAQ.
