I had read this paragraph off the webpage: <http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/download.html>:
"You must have the Python <http://www.python.org/> interpreter installed somewhere on your system. Currently Python 2.1 or newer is required, with Python 2.3.3 being recommended.
Yeah, that part of the page needs to be updated. That's why I created the FAQ entry I referenced. The FAQ Wizard is designed to let anyone create an entry, regardless of whether or not they are part of the python or gnu.org projects, whereas changing the other types of pages is much more difficult unless you are the webmaster or approved project member of those systems.
I am using Mailman 2.1.5 and called it latest stable release based on how sourceforge presented it as such.
I asked the question that way because many people mistakenly believe that the "latest stable version" is whatever their OS vendor provides in whatever binary package formats they make available. Unfortunately, more than a few OS vendors provide package versions that are woefully out-of-date, and this makes it very difficult for us to tell what which version people are talking about unless they are explicit.
Looks like I need to find a way to get a newer python on my box. I'll withdraw my request for help until such a time as I get that installed, and I assume re-install mailman.
Your problem may or may not be related to the python version problem. However, upgrading your python version is the first thing I'd focus on doing. If you're still having problems after that, we can help you deal with that issue when the time comes.
