I imagine that the problem is your HTML messages are being mis-interpreted, perhaps because the messages are being modified as a result of header or footers being added by Mailman. See <http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py?req=show&file=faq04.039.htp> for one type of problem.
