I think we may be getting somewhere because my httpd.conf file is not consistent with yours. I'm running apache2, and I seem to remember installing it from source (although I'm not sure about that).
Here's the only User and Group entry in the file: <IfModule !mpm_winnt.c> <IfModule !mpm_netware.c> # # If you wish httpd to run as a different user or group, you must run # httpd as root initially and it will switch. # # User/Group: The name (or #number) of the user/group to run httpd as. # .
