It seems to me that the aliases (at least the post alias) must pipe to
a different mail/mailman wrapper than the aliases for the other lists
that work. Either that or somhow the MTA is configured in such a way
that it runs in a different group when piping to that one list.

Check the aliases and the MTA configuration.
