There are plans for a backend database in Mailman 2.2, but how 'near'
that future is is hard to say. See
<http://wiki.list.org/display/DEV/Mailman+2.2>.

There is currently, a MySQL MemberAdaptor for member data but not list
data. See
<http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=839386&group_id=103&atid=300103>.
There is ongoing development of this. See
<http://trac.rezo.net/trac/rezo/browser/Mailman>.
