New messages do it as well.  I think.  The data directory is empty.
Where else could it be borked.  Should qfiles/shunt be emptied out?

It seems like this essentially means that that message is borked; best
rm it and be done. You might be able to get something useful out of it
by unpickling it by hand and looking, but no promises.
