And if you're wondering what MTA stands for, it's Mail Transfer Agent.
Likewise, the e-mail client that use (be it Outlook, Eudora, Pine, a
web-mail client, any of the genericly named "Mail" programs, or anything
else) is an MUA or Mail User Agent.
