Likely or not, that's always what turns out to be the reason for this

You have to look at the full headers. I hav no idea how to do that in
Lotus Notes, but you need to see the chain of Received: header which
show the progress of the mail.

For example, the Received: headers from the message to which I'm
replying are:

These say that the message originated at emdch-smtp.nt.gov.au

and bag.python.org (where it went through a few processes) on its way
to my server at sbh16.songbird.com.

We want to know where your "n requests" message originated.
