This should only occur if there is no
archives/private/mailman_project/yyyy-Month/ directory with a mod time
more recent than archives/private/mailman_project/htdig/rundig_last_run.
When you post, is the post archived? Does the mod time of
archives/private/mailman_project/2010-August get updated?

This is normal/correct to here.

This should produce some HTML output following your input of 'short'.
There is some problem with htsearch or the mailman_project.conf file.
