I can imagine your confusion, sorry. I made no typing mistake, but
really was trying to install 2.1.4. Very stupid of me not to notice
that the previous one was 2.1.3. I have no idea, why I downloaded
the wrong one :(

Correct, the Python version that came with SlackWare 13.0 is 2.6.2

I now got 2.1.14, and it compiled without any problems.
