Hi, Thanks, traced this to using tcp connections to the remote logging server (at the insistence of the security manager) rather than udp. So rsyslog on the mailman server locked up as the remote server's rsyslog had locked up due to overload. Once I restarted the remote rsyslog daemon the 1800 mail queue disappeared so fast I didnt have time to see it go.
