As suggested in another reply this is a known issue. The only workaround is to update to the latest test release: Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane.

Off topic: If there are any `outlook.com` users on the mailing list then note the experimental support for XOAUTH2 (OAuth2). The feature is described [here](http://manual.mailmate-app.com/hidden_preferences#xoauth2) although that is now outdated since MailMate no longer requires an external browser.
