Well, that depends on the network connection and the IMAP servers involved.

I'm mainly recommending the “clean start” approach to avoid potential issues with a custom location of the Messages folder and any issues arising from restoring from a backup (which is not 100% reliable because MailMate doesn't control the order in which files are backed up). (A clean start also ensures that the database is as small as it can be.)
