I think in my case something very simple ... at least it hasn't happened since I "fixed" it.
I use two virtual screens (Desktops in macOS speak) and for some reason Little Snitch started to pop up connection dialogs on the screen I rarely visit. When I noticed I had a couple of dialogs that had timed out. I don't know if this was the reason but once I restarted my Mac to get LS to place to dialogs on the active screen and since then everything has worked just fine.
