Makes sense to me. My Gmail account also has a Spam folder, not Junk. But I 
don’t use it and hide it from view.

However I do use a MM specific folder (“Junk”) for all my Junk mail capture, so 
don’t use their default Spam folder. So, hide theirs from display in MM IMAP 
settings. Google’s server is set to not move anything, anywhere, at any time.

The Drone operation in SpamSieve (running on the MacMini server) alongside MM 
takes care of that.
