Hi All,

A short form version of my weekly 'lay of the land' email, and might be a little quiet the next two weeks

Early reports show a huge increase in compromised email account spam, and from first appearances it looks like a well know control panel (cPanel) was targeted for this one.. Unfortunately, most of the spam going to invalid users.. Must be trying to spam a really old database of email addresses. Thousands of attempts, no deliveries. Makes it hard to confirm behavior (please enable outbound rate limiters)

 FROM: <greggstripteaseast...@mail2noah.com>

As well, a new actor using Amazon for their spamming practices. Pretty big spread..

Luckily, pretty obvious pattern to detect.. unfortunately, Amazon EC2 IP space is getting on a lot more RBL's

And SendGrid is again leaking a lot of phishing emails..

On the bright side, IoT spam suddenly dropped this week, wonder if it was related to that Russian data center take down, the timing matched.

Be safe everyone..
