True, and that is because when we came up with the idea for data response codes, we were specifically thinking of how we could be more useful to spam filters in general, and spamassassin in particular. :-) In fact for that reason we had someone who had worked on the original architecture of spamassassin help us to create the data response code system. We also knew that others would copy our model and chose to let them, rather than to try to patent it or anything like that, because, again, at the end of the day it's about the email ecosystem and anything we can do to help receivers distinguish the wheat from the chaff is good for the entire email system.
