The operative /word/ there is "SHOULD".

The operative /concept/ there is that each receiving server is allowed to do whatever they want to do.

I've also seen many people talking about banning some of the newer -- let's go with -- vanity TLDs outright in order to avoid spam therefrom.

I've also seen many people doing the same thing with IPv6.

You should conside every domain under the TLD individually.
