I haven't per se, but it sounds like either a line terminator or MTU
issue (or perhaps both?). The response might be too large for their MTU
to handle, and since it will have the DF flag set, it might get dropped.
I've had to troubleshoot something similar (though not on the SMTP
protocol) that turned out to be caused by an equipment unfairly reducing
MTU.
