The other part here is whether this mechanism is used to distribute spam 
through zendesk in which case they need to filter for that or at least avoid 
quoting the original text in their auto reply.

Oh yes, and additionally look for and suppress mail to list and auto responder 
related headers.

Actually it is a problem with ZenDesk.  This is what "Auto-Submitted:
auto-replied" is for and Google Groups seem to properly use that to not
distribute such automatic replies.  Those clearly should go to single
people anyway.
