When I compose a new email in a separate window, clicking the "save" button on the Gmail page causes the "Insert Email" icon in the toolbar to become greyed-out (as opposed to the "Save" icon). Also, there seems to be no way to customize the toolbar in these additional windows (option is greyed-out in the "View" menu).
