I noticed an automatic Google Gears update on my Mac. Please try this:
- Close Mailplane
- Re-install Google Gears - use Safari for the installation:
http://gears.google.com
- In Finder go to ~/Application Support/Google/Gears and move "Google Gears
for Safari" to Trash
- Start Mailplane, click the "offline 0.2" link and follow steps in wizard

Hope this helps.
