First though I don't post very often to this mailing list I absolutely love
mailplane and use it probably more then any other single application then
Firefox and my todo list manager (EtreTask).

However there have been some bugs and issues creeping up that I've begun to
find "irksome".

I probably should have written about many of these sooner.

First thing first, I am currently using mailplane version 2.0.14 (995). It's
the latest version I can run on 10.5. More on this later.

1) When inbox refreshes it jumps to an arbitrary point

The problem that's currently most annoying me is that when I open or
navigate to my inbox with multiple panes/views enabled it automatically
seems to jump down the page to the same point.

In short I have to scroll up every single time I have to refresh/change
to/from the inbox. As you can imagine this has over time started to get a
tinsy bit annoying.

I could understand this if it jumped to a spot that made sense like the
pane/view with my overall inbox. However the point seems to be completely
arbitrary.

Not sure whether it's mailplane's fault or google though I've found no
preferences or settings in either that might explain this occurrence.

I'm thinking it might have something to do with the way google loads the
page... i.e. all that crazy dynamic html stuff.

1.5) Why isn't the inbox auto-updating anymore?

The above issue seems to be compounded by the fact that I have found that my
inbox doesn't seem to be auto-updating when I get new mail. This didn't use
to be a problem but more and more I'm finding my inbox doesn't update
properly.

I have just discovered and am trying the "close instead of hiding inbox"
mailplane setting which seems to alleviate this problem somewhat.

Also thankfully when I close and open the window with this setting on it and
it reloads the inbox from the server it does not for some reason jump to
that same arbitrary place on the page.

It still does not however refresh / display new mail in the inbox when I
navigate back and for the between reading mail and viewing the inbox.

I have checked the google settings and the mailplane preferences and can
find no checkbox or preference that might explain this.

2) No 10.5 support

Is there some major reason why you've dropped 10.5 support?

Mailplane keeps bugging me to update... but when i did an error came up
saying "this version of mailplane only runs on 10.6" and I had to go back to
using this 2.0.14 (995) version.

Indeed not being able to use the latest version of mailplane may be the
reason for half my problems here.

One of these days I'll upgrade to 10.6 but it shouldn't be necessary just to
run mailplane. What's so special about 10.6 that mailplane needs anyway.

I can run the latest version of Safari (4.04) on 10.5.

3) Discard button doesn't work

I'm noticing an increase in bugs like the "discard" button not actually
working at all so I have to manually close the windows for email I'm
composing and go in and delete them from drafts.

4) Clicking links in emails you're composing deletes them

Ironically while the discard button doesn't work I've found when you click
on a link in an email you're composing to visit the website (accidental or
not) it basically closes and discards the entire email you're writing.

This one is particularly heinous as I have lost work on more then one
occasion and may drive me to stop using Mailplane. Indeed it's a "fatal
error".

This couldn't be a more fatal bug then if Mailplane simply crashed. Not that
I've ever had mailplane crash.

5) Quiting doesn't always save drafts.

When I quite mailplane doesn't always save drafts of stuff I've been writing
anymore. I used to be assured if I had a window open and was composing an
email it would be saved.

6) Undo no longer works properly

I can't use Undo anymore when composing mail. Sometimes it does undo...
sometimes when I undo more then one thing it does scary weird things I can't
even begin to explain.

These last few things are eroding my trust in mailplane and I've found
myself more and more opening up TextEdit to compose in.

7) Mailplane is hogging virtual memory

I've noticed that if left open mailplane gradually uses more and more
memory... as in gigabytes.

It's always done this, not a major thing, but the only thing else that uses
so much memory is firefox and that's only if I leave it with 8 windows open
and 50 tabs for days or weeks on end.

I find quiting it and reopening it throughout the day to be a work around.

== In conclusion ==

As you can see many of the problems above can be more then just annoying.
Though I've found workarounds for most there are others that are quite
frankly starting to erode my confidence in Mailplane.

That said thank you for all your had work on mailplane.
