Sorry for the late answer. If the update procedure still doesn't work, please download it manually from from http://mailplaneapp.com/download and just overwrite your Mailplane.app in the Applications folder.
@Erica: I wouldn't use the old version, as it doesn't work well with the current Gmail… is there a particular problem you are having?
