Location: IA Duration: 6 months Rate: DOE * * *Overview:* The Database Administrator has full responsibility for database design, implementation and tuning of all RDBMS systems. This person is responsible for providing stable, available and reliable access to data and systems housed on personal computers and network servers. The network may include multiple environments supporting Client Server applications, including the database used by those applications. The incumbent is responsible for database design and support, database and system tuning services, capacity planning and usage monitoring. This person is also responsible for keeping the data warehouse in sync with the requirements of the development staff. Also, establishes and maintains a strong working relationship between ITS and the business unit, and works toward continually improving the corporate computing environment. *Responsibilities:* REQUIRED: 1. Bachelor's Degree in computer science or related field or equivalent work experience. 2. 5+ years of programming experience, with 3 years in system programming. 3. Previous exposure to system internals, with the knowledge of programming languages (Cobol, C, Pearl, VB). 4. Knowledge of database and telecommunication systems. 5. Knowledge of relational database and data warehouse technologies, transaction processing procedures and advanced modeling and design tools. 6. Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing. 7. Ability to work well with people from many different disciplines, with varying degrees of technical experience. 8. Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical systems support for the database programming group, including the monitoring and reporting of group activities. 9. Ability to provide documentation and standards to help direct the activities of the IS department as a whole. 10. Coordination of current and future plans and activities, as the result of working closely with other IS groups. 11. Ability to recognize and identify potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future business expansion. 12.
