personally, i think they screwed up with the fundamental design of IPS.

My opinion, is that if we put in enough effort into improving SVR4
for the things that it really lacks (by our use of extending it through
 class action scripts, for example), 
that one day, IPS will be the NIS+, compared to pkgadd's NIS.

(ie: NIS is still here, even after sun "killed" it, and NIS+ is not :-)

Mind you, there's ldap on top of everything :) but still, the bottom line
being that nis+ was just too complex for most peoples' needs.
