git-controlled local repository to which I'm making changes.

I see. It may be a good idea to review the whole patch-process,
maybe some kind of "maintainer mode" unpacking stuff to a local
git repo allowing branching, delivering patches to files/ and
checking out to WORKSRC would be useful... A thing for some
cold nights to come ;-)
