Navy Spring Women's
USNA
March 14-15
FINAL RESULTS
REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS:
Saturday began with no wind and racing was delayed for over an hour.
Eventually, a 3-5 knot Easterly filled in and racing began off Triton
Point. There was some current, which played a factor in the light
breeze which remained mostly steady throughout the early races.
After four races per division, the breeze began to lighten further
and the fleet was sent in for lunch at 1300. Another wind delay
ensued until a 3-5 knot Southwesterly filled in and three more races
per division were completed to make 7 for the day. An 8th race was
started and then abandoned when the wind totally died and the fleet
was sent in to enjoy a cookout sponsored by the Naval Academy Sailing
Squadron. The afternoon breeze proved to be much puffier and
shiftier, making for challenging racing. One protest was heard,
resulting in one DSQ. A division sailed in 420s all day, while B was
in FJs. The divisions will switch fleets for the start of racing
tomorrow. Special thanks to LT Ted Huebner and his team of
Midshipmen for getting off 7 quality racing under challenging
conditions, Herb Larabee and Dick Morin for serving as Protest
Committee, and Joan Morin and her NASS volunteers for a great dinner.
On Sunday, There was a little bit of breeze in the morning and the
fleet went out for about a half an hour before coming back in. We
waited on shore until 1330 when racing was abandoned for the day.
Congratulations to the College of Charleston for winning the 2009
Navy Spring Women's Intersectional.
