REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS:
Saturday - 9 races were sailed in a light NE wind that ranged from 2-8mph.
Courses were windward leewards with gates and Gold Cups. The racing among
the top teams
was very close. The first eight races were sailed in the Potomac River.
When the current became
too strong we moved into the Washington Sailing Marina Lagoon and held one
race before the breeze died.
No protests were filed.
Sunday - Racing started off in the Potomac River with a light SE wind. The
wind died prior to completion
the first race and we postponed on the water. When the wind filled in it
came from the SW and quickly
grew to 15-20. Numerous boats capsized immediately and the race committee
decided to send the
sailors into the Lagoon. Three races were completed in the Washington
Sailing Marina Lagoon in a SW wind that
was puffy and ranged from 15-22mph. Numerous capsizes and DNF's occurred in
those races.
No protests and only one breakdown for a broken vang shackle. Judge and
Mrs. Arrigan were came to
watch the regatta and to meet the sailors.
Congrats to Hobart for winning the 2009 Robert P. Arrigan Memorial Regatta.
