ARMY 2-on-2 TEAM RACE LOCALE: West Point, NY. USMA Sailing Center, South Dock DAY & DATE: Saturday, May 2, 2009 PARTICIPANTS: Army, Columbia, Christopher Newport, Maryland, Royal Military College, Webb NO SHOWS: Drexel & Monmouth RACING REPORT: Under overcast skies and temperatures in the high 50s, the regatta started promptly at 0945 in light and variable winds between 3-8 kts from the North (shifting slightly to NNE). The morning session features a modified triangle course. During the morning session, there were two 30 minute postponements due to lack of wind. Over the course of the morning two races were abandoned due to lack of wind and strong current. Both races were re-sailed when conditions improved. After a picnic lunch provided to all competitors by the West Point sailing team and their parents, racing resumed at 1330 with a “quad right” starboard rounding box-style course. Afternoon temperatures were in the mid 70s with sunny skies and winds increasing steadily throughout the day to 11 kts by 1700. Race #10 was abandoned because of ferry boat interference of race course. This race was re-sailed when the offending boat departed the area. After lunch, 12 races were completed. All 15 races (full rotation) were completed by 5:30 pm. There were no protests. Final scores allowed for a clear order of finish with no ties to break. Thus, there was no racing on 3 May. The final standing are as follows: 1. Army 4-1 2. MD 3-2 (MD beat WEB) 3. WEB 3-2 4. CNU 2-3 (CNU beat RMC) 5. RMC 2-3 6.
