Greater New York Dinghy Regatta
Fordham & Columbia University
City Island, NY
April 9-10, 2011

Saturday: Sailors were greeted by a light north easterly that wasn't quite
enough to sail but breakfast provided by Fordham kept everyone happy. Racing
began at 10:30 in a light easterly wind which held until the southerly of
6-10 knots took over at 2:30. In all 8A and 6B races were completed. Thanks
to all Columbia and Fordham sailors for their help and Chief Judge Jim Ryan
for hearing protests. The were no breakdowns and 2 protests which resulted
in 1 DSQ. Dartmouth leads heading into day 2.

First race is scheduled for 9:30 tomorrow and breakfast will be ready by
8:30.

Sunday: Teams arrived to a very light 3-5 knot North Easterly. 2 B Division
races were sailed and upwind current in the light air made staying below the
starting line a difficult task. A Division completed race 9A and race 10A
was abandoned at 12:15 and teams postponed ashore. With overcast skies and
the only forecasted breeze as a sea-breeze racing was canceled for the day
at 1:15. There were no protests. Thanks to our Judges Jim Ryan and his
colleague judge in training Bill Donaldson for hearing protests on Saturday.
After everyone had de-rigged sailors were treated to cheesecake and an
awards presentation. Congratulations to the Dartmouth Big Green team of John
Renehan, Avery Plough, Bo McClatchy, and Jenna Musco for winning the Greater
New York Dinghy Regatta.
