RE: Regatta Management
Time ran out at the Annual Meeting and this subject did not get addressed.
Unfortunately, some events in the fall were so poorly run as to have been
an embarrassment to the host teams and their schools. This is an issue we
must address.
There are two basic reasons why events are poorly run: 1. They don’t know
any better (poorly educated) and 2. They don’t take the job seriously (Hey,
you got a start and a finish, what else do you expect?)
We at CNU do care and we take this responsibility seriously. Still, we
know that no matter how hard anyone tries, things can go wrong and things are
overlooked. As both a demonstration of our team’s commitment and in order
to catch anything we may miss, the attached “Regatta Evaluation” sheet will
be posted next to the R.P. forms at CNU events. Nothing is required and
making an entry on this sheet is optional for all visiting teams, individual
members and coaches. Anyone may let us know what we have done correctly,
but, more importantly, we want to know what we may do better in the future.
Entries can be anonymous, in the name of the team, or signed by the
individual.
The form may undergo some changes, but for now, it is attached and any
team, committed to doing a better job and willing to accept criticism, is free
to make use of it.
