The McCurdy Open, hosted by the University of Delaware, was held this weekend on Saturday October 6 and Sunday October 7 at North East River Yacht Club. Saturday greeted us with some sunshine and racing began around 10:00am with winds out of the south around 10 knots. The wind gradually died down a bit to about 5-6 knots around 1:00pm. At 2:00pm, the wind shifted to the west and picked up to 10-12 knots. There was a third wind shift around 3:50 in the afternoon to the north west with gusts up to 20 knots. There were two capsizes at the end of the day in the final race. Each division sailed eight races on a windward leeward course with an upwind finish. Racing concluding for the day around 5:00pm. No protests were filed.
Sunday brought cold weather, and unfortunately due to a lack of wind, and rain the regatta was called and no races were completed. Special thanks to Drexel, Ocean County College, and Pennsylvania State for attending our regatta, the University of Delaware sailors who helped make this weekend a success, and Mike and Stephanie Wagner for running race committee. Finally, congratulations Drexel on winning the regatta. Final Results: 1st Drexel *2nd Penn State *2nd Delaware 4th Ocean County College * The tie was broken according to the ICSA Procedural Rules, PR 24(c)(i), with Penn State winning the tie breaker for second place.
